hypermasculinity/male socialization/sexual assault

Sexual behaviour could be socialized in males because most of the things we learn, learn we from peers, parents, school and media. When we are younger, girls are tought to be nice and friendly while boys are tought to be tough and brave. Girls should stay inside the house, playing with their dolls and their princess dresses while boys are outside fighting and playing in mud.Boys are tought to be strong, agressive and not supposed to show their soft side but they don´t get tought to rape a woman.

There are still a lot of families who learn their boys to treat girls with respect and try to teach them how to be a real gentleman.I think the major problem is media; Nowadays most of the TV shows and series are about sex, violence or people getting hurt by themselves because that are the things people are interested in.Kids are watching a woman on TV,who uses her body to get what she wants and so they think it is the right thing to do. They do not know that this is just entertainment and not "the real life".

When they get older men expect women to behave in exactly the same way and if they do not, they make them doing it (even if they have to rape them). In my opinion males who commit sexual assault are "hypermasculine" because they crave sexual control. They are aggressive and care only for their own needs.

This story is about a 24- year old man who who raped a 23-year old woman at knifepoint in a vehicle in Winnipeg’s North End early Monday 26th of May 2010.
The woman told police she willingly got into the suspect’s vehicle after some form of conversation but he soon made demands of sexual nature.
She declined and made it very clear she wanted out of the vehicle and made attempts to get out of the vehicle but Jason Michalyshen, who commited the crime, took out a knife and sexual assaulted her.
Altough the area is known being frequented by sex-trade workers, I don’t think that Michalyshen tought that he woman was a prostitute and it was okay to have sex with her.
When he got cought, he told a judge an addiction to steroids and alcohol abuse motivated the crime spree.
I don’t think that he raped the woman just because he consumed alcohol before he comitted the crime.
He probably just consumed alcohol to justify his behavior afterwards.

I think the reason why he comitted the crime was, because he really wanted sex, and after she made clear that she wanted out of the vehicle he didn’t see an other way to make her doing it.
